Gift of Self Reflection – Journals

After last week’s post, I took the afternoon off to really concentrate on me. I realized quickly I was going in many directions and giving a lot of me to my husband, son and business and leaving very little left for myself. I love my family and my business and I always want to give the best of me to them. However, a better me is hiding from the stress, deadlines and overwhelm.

I realized quickly a healthier me also means a more successful business and a better mom and wife.  A more focused mom when my son needs my undivided attention. A happier, less scattered wife when my husband and I have those few moments to concentrate on our marriage. A more organized and focused businesswoman.  So I went on a search for a journal. A way to end my evening with a little self-reflection and a way to brain dump and rest with a clear head.

I found lots of great options and I actually bought a few for myself and as gifts.  When they arrived I was so happy with my choices and I wanted to share a few with you!

Start Where You Are: A Journal for Self Reflection – The price point on this journal varies if you want it paperback or journal fashion but either way it’s worth the money.  I think what made this journal high on my favorites list is that it’s more interactive. It’s not a blank page you just have to sit and think about what to write.  It asks questions you answer and each page just has a different look and vibe.  You could easily fill this in with just a few minutes before bed or over coffee as you start your day.

The One-Minute Gratitude Journal – I love the flexibility of this journal. There are no dates at the top so if you miss a day you can just pick up where you left off without guilt. Seriously, life is crazy enough let’s not add guilt from missing a day in our journal to our plate.  Who has time for that?!  I loved the flexibility of one day writing down a few things you are grateful for but also the blank pages if you were an artist and wanted to draw something instead. The other thing I loved? The price! This book was $5.89 and I bought a few of them. This journal struck me as the perfect gift for the teenage girls in our family. Team it up with a fun pen, a bookmark, and a little candy and it’s a perfect gift.

Thought a Day Notepad – I thought this notepad was a genius idea and so far I’m loving it. It lays beside my nightstand and while my husband is getting all of his things together for the next morning I take just a few minutes to write in it. I love it and I actually found it on Oprah’s Favorite Things 2017 list. It has a open writing space and a quote at the bottom of each page.

The Five Minute Journal: A Happier you in 5 Minutes a day – The 5-minute journal is very plain on the outside. A simple white journal but it is packed with greatness. At first, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it. I love bright and uplifting colors and I was just meh about this one. However, this book is where that saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” comes from.  Simple on the outside and exactly what I needed on the inside. Each page has a quote at the top and then 5 questions. They are the perfect self-reflection questions that allow you to think back on your day and be grateful for it but also see what you could have done to make it even better. This is the perfect gift journal because it speaks to so many lives and situations.

Do you have a journal you love I’d love to hear all about it.
